A chiller is an advanced piece of equipment that is used to extract heat from a fluid with the help of a vapor-compression or absorption refrigeration cycle. After cooling, such a liquid is pumped through a heat exchanger to cool equipment efficiently or control the temperature of another process stream, providing maximum performance and energy efficiency in diverse industrial applications.
A chiller is a sophisticated device that efficiently extracts heat from a fluid using either a vapor-compression or absorption refrigeration cycle. The chilled fluid is subsequently pumped through a heat exchanger to chill equipment or control the temperature of other process streams (e.g., air or process water). One of the most important byproducts of the refrigeration process is waste heat, which either has to be exhausted to the ambient or, for improved energy efficiency, have to be recovered for heating purposes, thereby optimizing overall system efficiency and sustainability.
Cold water is commonly used to cool and dehumidify air for medium to large commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings. Chillers can be water-cooled, air-cooled, or evaporatively cooled, each of which has distinctive advantages. Water-cooled equipment is especially favorable, with enhanced efficiency and smaller environmental footprint over their air-cooled counterparts, making them an ideal solution for energy-efficient and environmentally friendly applications.
